Well, you're probably right about that. And after looking at the man
page, I'm not sure it matters that I didn't know. :)

Really, though, the error had nothing to do with not knowing about
options and everything to do with my sad bash skillz.
  

FYI.   I believe you can disable the alias associated  with a command  by placing  '\' in front of it.     \cd will execute the basic command, ignoring the alias.  Please correct me if I'm missing a nuance.
