It is strange.  What it did previously was to pop up a website
file transfer dialog box and then proceed to create on the
desktop, an index.php file.

But then I did the latest updates, tested the same site,
and a desktop link was successfully created.

So perhaps, the latest update fixed the problem,
whatever it was.
