Might be an idea to open a terminal, become superuser "root", and
run:  yum update yum\* PackageKit\*

Right at the top left corner of the screen is the dropdown menu listing Applications -> System Tools -> Terminal.
Once the Terminal is up and running at the prompt type in
$ su -
the system will ask for the ROOT [super] user password. Once that is typed and submitted the prompt will change to #, and will be ready for accepting commands allowed for super user ,and then you can run
# yum update yum
or simply the following command as yours is a fresh install.
# yum update
