The death knell may have started when Apple moved their systems to Intel processors. It's a community based OS (not Fedora specifically, but the Linux/GNU community at large). If there are no cheap systems to develop code it's hard to get the critical mass to push a distro. RHEL5.5 is available for IBM Power though.
