I also have a rt2860 WLAN card in my netbook (Eee PC 1000H) and it works

I would first try installing (a)kmod-rt2860 first, once you removed your
manually compiled module and configurations in /etc.

Then there is a good chance I will work again.
Question: Is Network Manager deactivated? Obviously you are using
wpa_supplicant directly, but it won't work (stable) if NM is active,
because the latter one continuously tries to reconfigure your
connection. Give NM the preference, before you try wpa_supplicant - it
is much more comfortable (if it works) and horribly documented (that you
realize once it does not work ;))
