1 - remove the i386 plugins first
2 - quit ALL running instances of firefox
3 - move the pluginreg.dat from your firefox profile folder somewhere
else and it will be rebuilt at next launch of firefox.

Typically, that will be in ~/.mozilla/firefox/$YOUR_PROFILE/

$YOUR_PROFILE is generally a hash created the first launch so it is
entirely unpredictable. If you have more than 1 profile, you will have
to figure out which profile firefox is actually using.
