I use VMware Workstation 7 on Fedora 12 i386 since day when kqemu
support has been dropped,
My system is a laptop w/ Pentium Dual Core and 3 GB RAM.
Try to reduce the memory of guest os allocated by vmware (eg: 256
instead of 512) it's depend on host ram.
If your system support VT-x go with KVM.
