Exactly the same behaviour! My system [1] runs in runlevel:3, so when
X crashed I wound up back at the terminal screen. There was only one
message from gimp [2]:
'line-out'.
My system:
[1] uname -a
Linux imt.ru 2.6.31.6-166.fc12.i686 #1 SMP Wed Dec 9 11:14:59 EST 2009
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
[2] rpm -q gimp
gimp-2.6.8-1.fc12.i686
