Thanks lazy web ...[1] Sansa Fuze won't mount - firmware upgrade switched device into MTP mode, changing back to MSC mode fixed it.
[2] User can't mount usb device - permission problem on newly created dev files. Fixed by running a script (as root) to change permissions.
