FC10 and RedHat NTFS file format compatibility

When trying to read a NTFS preformatted USB drive I am getting a message not supported by the system.
This is under Red Hat 5.4 enterprise.

When reading about workarounds I gather tha fedora and RedHat do not support the format but there is a way to update the kernel to be NTFS compatible.

Can anyone offer some help on how to fix this problem for Redhat 5.4 and/or Fedora FC10 running under X86_64??
