Update:

  module rr232x.ko appears to have been built.
  I copied it into

   /lib/modules/2.6.30.8-64.fc11.x86_64/kernel/drivers/scsi


uname -r reports kernel version 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.x86_64 is running

chmod 744 rr232x.ko
then with modprobe rr232x or modprobe rr232x.ko
I get a FATAL error telling me that module rr232x.ko does not exist.

All suggestions appreciated.
