Well, in this case I don't really need to send mail directly from the box.
From what I understand, esmtp only uses procmail for local mail, so I could set up a real SMTP server for esmtp to use, as well.

I think what esmtp does is check for the @ symbol. If found, it sends mail through SMTP server. If not, it uses procmail. Not sure why aliases need to be involved in this...
