Thanks very much! Here is my entire configuration: my graphics card is an ATI Fire GL 512MB PCIe x16 ATI Fire GL V7700, Dual Monitor DVI capable   2ATIV77.

I will look into the usb key? I will also try the nomodeset option advised on the hardware-related issues link you sent.
