No similar problems on my own system, a Quad Core x86_64 system since I installed the latest kernel namely:
vmlinuz-2.6.30.5-43.fc11.jon.x86_64
on September 13th.

The kernel was modified slightly to allow preemptive scheduling rather than the default voluntary preemption.
The system runs the nvidia proprietary drivers as built on the system itself, using nvidia's script.
