The above 6 are for creating 6 CD-ROMs to install a system from. You
can also just use the files on a hard drive, without burning the discs,
if you want. You use one disc to boot up, and pick a hard drive as the
source for install files. But read the docs for how to do that.

The above is a small boot disc for starting an installation that gets
the packages to be installed using a network instead of a CD. It also
offers other options and features.

Only if you want to run an installation from a DVD. The 6-disc CD
installation does the same job.

You do a checksum test before burning the CDs. That checks that the
file you downloaded was okay, in the first place. You can also do a
test of the CDs after you burn them, but that sometimes fails (the test
fails on good CDs). The installation process will offer to test your
discs before the installation actually starts.
