Yes, the problem was fixed on my desktop computer. However, with my
laptop, I am getting no sound and the following messages on the
console:

$ ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hdmi
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hdmi
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hdmi
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hdmi
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hdmi
ALSA lib control.c:909:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hdmi
