Yes, no doubt it would be better if HPIJS was installed automatically, but
I'm not sure my former problem has anything to do with your 2 first links.
As I said, soon as I chose HAL to set up the printer, the HPIJS driver was
asked. I installed it and now everything works right, reboot or no reboot.

I suppose HAL would work with Gutenprint too.

So, as fas as I am concerned, my problem is solved, but it would be better
for users if HAl was selected automatically for my printer (1012) and
other HP laser printers that use the HP InkJetSystem drivers (not
post/ghost-script).

If you don't object, as far as I am concerned, I would repost my original
message with (solved) in the title, at least as a temporary solution.
