Yea, I think the IP is important. I believe NIS gets started
before DNS.
Not for me.
More general, NIS-clients (that's what we are talking about) without
functional dns underneath doesn't make much sense at all.
An entry for that name in /etc/hosts should also
work.
I don't have such.
