Well, after reading a lot of posts about this error, I found that none of the suggestions dealt with the read problem... THE REPOSITORY AT DOWNLOAD.FEDORA.REDHAT.COM IS MISSING! You can see here: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/ [1] All of the directories there are empty. So I went looking for another. A Japanese mirror still has the files: http://ftp.riken.go.jp/pub/Linux/fedora/core/ [2] I edited my baseurls to replace this: download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/ with this: ftp.riken.go.jp/pub/Linux/fedora/core/ [3] Now that yum can find a repository, everything works. To edit... file browse to /etc/yum.repos.d open all of the files there in gedit and use the replace function on each file and save. be sure to uncomment the baseurl line (remove the #) A time may come when we'll need to find another "good" mirror.
