Yes, repomd.xml was giving an error.

Do you have a reliable baseurl or the contents of a sample file?

Thank you for pointing this out. Pristine sounds like a file that
works.

Each piece of information I relish. Get enough pieces, wa-lah, it's
all together...and yum is working again.
