The software grabs the audio stream at the sound card via software, and redirects it to the bridge. I am trying to get it to work unded VirtualBox running XP, but no luck so far. It does work on my dual boot laptop under XP. I did find a couple of interesting things - it is a true bridge - it bridges the wireless and wired NICs, so you can use it to connect a wired network segment to a wireless AP. I kind of with I have got a couple more just for that. (It will even pass DHCP traffic across the bridge.) The other interesting thing is that it runs Linux. I am looking at the source code now. So far, the most enlightening part has been the kernel build options. This is going to be interesting.
