Xorg settings from the automatic, did not properly manage the combination of sweep frequency and resolution.
I set the resolution, which my monitor could achieve at 1600x1200 but say that I could put the sweep freq at 85. On relogging to Fedora10, the monitor went into protective mode, advising me that it would not display because the frequency was too high.
I have been looking (using Gnome) at where the monitor/sweep frequency settings are stored in the users /home directory. (It is a hidden file), but thus far, I have not been successful. I can log in with a virtual terminal, since the terminal resolution works at a lower frequency / resolution combination.
is it ".gnome", or ".gvsv" or other similar hidden directory / file ?

That won't work because the server is already running. I don't want
to manually configure the thing. Xorg comes up by itself by guessing what to
run (since there's no xorg.conf.) And it does it so dang well, I just want
to know if there's a way to have it dump whatever guesses it comes up with,
