The most interesting thing to me about all so-called "uninterruptible"
power supplies, is how often the most common reason you need to shutdown
your computer is to work on the UPS :-). That seems like something
I'd call an "interruption".

You can get high end units with special switches to switch to an
alternate power source very carefully keeping the power from
dropping out or spiking while making the switch, but that also
doesn't meet the "cheapest possible" criteria.
