my apologies. missed it when i open second post and deleted first post
before starting my reply.

i looked thru what is in my ~/.gnome* directories, but as i suspected, not
having used gnome, i have no configs that would possibly apply.

therefore, a post to gnome desktop list may provide an answer.

as for conveyance, physically changing out a mouse a minor effort.

changing a config in user's '~/.gnome' would be easiest solution.

you could drop down thru directories in '~/' and look for a config file,
or run 'find . -name "*con*" -print' or 'find . -name "*mouse*" -print',
or some other such if no help from gnome list.

even something on order of 'find . -type f `grep mouse` ['man find' for
correct syntax] could show up where a mouse config file would be.
