I have tried that but getting the following error:

I have checked /var/run and there isn't a file yum.pid:

[root@turtle log]# ls -l yum*
-rw------- 1 root root 31917 2008-10-14 06:24 yum.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 30874 2008-01-22 13:29 yum.log-20080123
-rw------- 1 root root 31661 2008-04-24 08:09 yum.log-20080424

Any thoughts...????

# pkill yum

(or "pgrep -fl yum" to check, and then pkill).
