might be useful to look at output of

rpm -Vq gdm

I have no idea what it means! ;)

Here is more info:

[root@bronze dant]# cd /etc/gdm
[root@bronze gdm]# diff custom.conf custom.conf.rpmnew

[root@bronze gdm]# ls -ldZ /var/log/gdm
