it is quite possible that leland, kc8ldo, has software that ties his
radio gear in with his computer.

ham radio operators are a 'rare breed' who firmly believe in old saying
'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' and this applies to software that they
write.

this could be anything from controlling tuning of his radios to packet relay,
or, satellite or weather tracking.

it is very likely that he has software that was either written by another
ham or a radio oem, that uses libs that lock software to fc3 and author
has never bothered to upgrade software to current.

this is just a guess, from former 'whiskey be 4 old yellow indian'.
