I agree 100% with your entire post. With one small caveat: I have always gone with "all Intel, all the time", but when I put a 22" widescreen monitor on this computer (Intel dual core) it had a slow crawl near the top of the screen. I very reluctantly put a 512mb ATI Raedon X1550 card in it (which supported digital output - the built-in Intel video had analog output only) and the crawl disappeared. I suspect that it was something to do with electrical interference of some kind. I still recommend Intel motherboards and use Intel video in all of my other computers.
