for your network/situation, provide us the information/diagram for how you're getting to the net. machine1 (ipaddress,os,mask, default gateway,etc...) ^ | | V switch/router (ipaddress,os,mask,etc...) ^ | | V cable/dsl (ipaddress,os,mask,etc...) ^ | | V Internet under normal circumstances, the default gateway is the ipaddress of the router/switch, which is then connected to the cable/dsl modem.. the above assumes that your situation is similar. if it isn't tell us/show us what you have... -----Original Message----- From: fedora-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx [mailto:fedora-list-bounces@xxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Bill Davidsen Sent: Tuesday, September 16, 2008 1:32 PM To: Community assistance, encouragement, and advice for using Fedora. Therefore I assume that the switch is the issue, it either doesn't speak to the external network or it doesn't speak to your machine. Generally you would use a router rather than a switch to get to the net, so hopefully this is just using the wrong term and not the whole wrong hardware. Or the router may be configured to provide DHCP, and ignore any IP address it doesn't provide.
