Thanks for the reply. If oudn it intresting that when I used the command export http_proxy with correct syntax in cli it does not work for some reason. However when added the it to the /etc/profile document it works perfectly fine.

Does the proxy require authentication?
If authentication is required you'll have to use something like
export http_proxy="http://username:password@host:port"
export ftp_proxy="http://username:password@host:port"
