go to virtual console...
<Control><Alt><F1>
login as root and then type command...
telinit 3 # switch to runlevel 3
echo "DISPLAYMANAGER=KDE" >> /etc/sysconfig/desktop
# this will change it from gdm greeter to kdm greeter
telinit 5 # switch back to runlevel 5

at this point, you should be able to login and do whatever you need to
do.

If you want to switch back to gdm instead of kdm, you will have to
figure out what broke gdm
