Some things to consider when requesting a newer version... - Detail which features the newer version has that the current one doesn't have. - Provide links to information on the updated package/features - Try downloading the current SRPM and installing it, then getting the newer tarball and swapping that for the one in the SRPM and then building it, even installing it if possible, to see what challenges the packager would have to deal with (if any).
