My agenda is to promote freedom.

It's too bad you've confused restrictions with freedom.

My reasoning is that, even if I
don't convince anyone that the name GNU is relevant, at the very least
I'll have reached several people with the underlying message.

GNU is a radical political movement. Putting the name next to Linux makes it seem as though Linus himself endorses the movement. But that's rather dishonest, given that Linus has always stayed away from such political zealotry.
