i have this old redhat 7.2 box that suddenly started to act up. it restarts all the time and there is nothing in the log but this:

Jul 23 03:06:25 grande syslogd 1.4.1: restart.
Jul 23 03:06:25 grande syslog: syslogd startup succeeded

something somewhare has changed but i can't figure it out. the only things running on that box are httpd, dns and ftp but there is nothing in those logs that can point to something interesting...

where do i look?

thanks...

Off the cuff... try to issue:

grep initdefault /etc/inittab

of course you'll be doing that from a rescue disk, unless you can get it to boot into single user mode, and it'll look more like:
grep initdefault /sysimage/etc/inittab

Also watching the screen as it boots may give some other clues, but you may need to disable rhgb to see them.

BTW, please tell us that you don't have a box that out of date reachable from the raw internet.
