I did that and the horizontal and vertical rates are well within spec, but of course this is for the wrong resolution (1400x1050 instead of 1440x900). I realize I could just mess around with xorg.conf till it works, but that to me is not a solution. There is clearly a bug in KDE (maybe also in X or at least system-config-display) and a kludge isn't the answer.
