Trying to follow a high-traffic mailing list like this one in a primitive MUA that doesn't support threading must be a real pain – and it would be a pain even if everybody would quote everything every time. Someone who just joined the list may have to look in the archive if they really really want to read the original post, but that problem goes away after a week or two.
