I just bought a 1TB My Book external HD with the idea of using it to back up both my Fedora box and my wife's Vista laptop. I was going to partition half of it as NTFS and the other half ext3. The documentation says that it comes preformatted with a single FAT32 partition but this looks strange to me # mount ... /dev/sdc1 on /media/My Book type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=hal,shortname=lower,uid=500) # fdisk -l /dev/sdc1 Disk /dev/sdc1: 1000.2 GB, 1000202241024 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121600 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xxxxxxxxxx This doesn't look like a partition table Probably you selected the wrong device.
