f9 tar fails during backups

Suppose I want to back up my home directory using tar.

I see this :

ls: cannot access .gvfs: Permission denied

d?????????  ? ?         ?            ?                ? .gvfs

...and this :

tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

What service do I need to stop to eliminate this vfs file error during 
backups?

# ls /etc/init.d/*vfs*
ls: cannot access /etc/init.d/*vfs*: No such file or directory
