Because OpenOffice needs some java parts and the accompanying gcj bits
require gcj.  The regular java bytecode will probably run just fine with
either gcj or OpenJDK but the gcj bits require gcj.

It's possible to keep both Java installations and to use alternatives to always use the Java 6 .
