help with fc9 installation

Greetings.  I've run into a snag while installing Fedora Core 9.  What I first thought was being caused by anaconda, isn't.  Upon a closer look, the system is locking up at "Starting HAL daemon..."  This is where it stays, all input control is lost, and a hard shutdown is the only way out.

Has anyone seen this that could lend a helping hand?
