Hello All, I'm lost here and I kindy ask for your assistance. I just made a 'yum update' to update my mythbackend running Fedora 8. Previously this used to work fine for me, but this time it left me with no sound in many applications. Whenever I try to play a file with mplayer, it says: ========================================================================== Opening audio decoder: [mp3lib] MPEG layer-2, layer-3 AUDIO: 48000 Hz, 2 ch, s16le, 128.0 kbit/8.33% (ratio: 16000->192000) Selected audio codec: [mp3] afm: mp3lib (mp3lib MPEG layer-2, layer-3) ========================================================================== *** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to connect: Connection refused [AO_ALSA] Playback open error: Connection refused audio_out: alsa9 and alsa1x modules were removed, use -ao alsa instead. and if I use '-ao alsa' it starts the playback with no sound at all. I also noticed my "PulseAudio Volume Control" does not work as well ("Connection failed. Connection refused"). It used to work fine before the update... With the update I changed from kernel-2.6.23.15-137.fc8 to kernel-2.6.24.5-85.fc8. I assume it might be important, although I'm not sure. I tried searching the Net but I couldn't find a similar issue. The strange thing is that I just updated another machine the same way and it has no problems with sound. It just works there as usual! I don't know how to trace the problem. I didn't find anything in /var/log/messages or in dmesg. Are there any specific pulseaudio log files? Here's some data I could think of: # aplay -L front:CARD=ICH6,DEV=0 Intel ICH6, Intel ICH6 Front speakers surround40:CARD=ICH6,DEV=0 Intel ICH6, Intel ICH6 4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers surround41:CARD=ICH6,DEV=0 Intel ICH6, Intel ICH6 4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround50:CARD=ICH6,DEV=0 Intel ICH6, Intel ICH6 5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers surround51:CARD=ICH6,DEV=0 Intel ICH6, Intel ICH6 5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers null Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) # aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: ICH6 [Intel ICH6], device 0: Intel ICH [Intel ICH6] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 card 0: ICH6 [Intel ICH6], device 4: Intel ICH - IEC958 [Intel ICH6 - IEC958] Subdevices: 1/1 Subdevice #0: subdevice #0 # uname -a Linux mythbackend 2.6.24.5-85.fc8 #1 SMP Sat Apr 19 12:39:34 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I appreciate any ideas! -- Best regards, Andrew -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
