Hi All, I'm trying to install a scanner in an F8 environment. The scanner is an HP 5590P scanner, 0x03f0/0x1705. As a relatively new device, this is not directly known to F8. But it is known to F9, so I 'force' installed sane-backends-1.0.19-10.fc9.i386 to bring it in. [root@marquee sane.d]# sane-find-scanner -q found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x1705 [hp scanjet scanner], chip=HP5550/5590/7650) at libusb:001:003 This shows that the scanner and model are known and there is a config file /etc/sane.d/hp5590.conf. I confirmed this with: [root@marquee sane.d]# lsusb Bus 001 Device 003: ID 03f0:1705 Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5590 Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0bda:0111 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Card Reader Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000 But: [root@marquee sane.d]# scanimage -L No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages). [root@marquee sane.d]# xsane Where do I go next? 'xsane' also insists that there are no scanners available. But I haven't a clue how to make the backend available. Jonathan -- fedora-list mailing list fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe: https://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list
