I've done that in the past, but selectively.  Rather than share out the
whole /var/cache/yum, and risk trying to write to the database twice
over, I've shared out the individual packages sub-directories, and let
each machine have its local databases.

Sure, there's still some risk if two try to download and save the same
package at once, but that's an easy problem to solve, much less messy
than database screwups.
