Saying "it doesn't run" doesn't tell us anything that would help to
answer your question. Try to be more precise. What happens when you run
it as a user? It doesn't start? it crashes or freezes? it won't connect
to your account? it gives an error message?

As your user in a terminal run pidgin and see what it says, or post any error
messages here.
Nothing , it just goes to the next prompt with no output.
