I too am just kind of poking in the air. Ted may well have it correct. If I were looking into this I would be reading up on Fedora (Linux) and how USB is done. I am courious why you are still using Core 5? I would tend to try a more recent version and consider doing a fresh install preserving critical data befor doing so and having a path back to your original install in case of trouble. You can try a Live CD and see how it does. If good, look at how it got there. I think they have made great strides in the auto-detection and configuration processes.
