Usually separate VLAN's are used to, say, segregate traffic on same switch into more than one
virtual network.
You typically hook your PC's to ports already configured for one VLAN or another
to the local ethernet switch. From there, to connect the multiple virtual networks
requires the use of a router.
While you can have a computer work with connecting to VLAN's and BE that router,
is that what you want to do or are you just trying to manage the switch the computer
is being connected to?
A little more information about your application would be helpful.
