Simply having it on a no longer recordable medium will protect it from some mistakes. Taking it out of the computer will protect it from a computer meltdown; though not if the meltdown destroys the room. A lock would help protect it from thieves and idiot relatives. Taking it to the next room could help it survive a meltdown that destroys the computer room. It would also be farther from idiot relatives and some thieves.
