that only works if you've never logged in before.

click the word 'session' at the bottom of the screen, switch to kde and
it should ask you after you log in if you want to make that permanent.

otherwise, it's easiest just to use switchdesk...

yum install switchdesk switchdesk-gui

then run (as user)... switchdesk
