I know it is bad form to reply to your own message, but anyway....
	I couldn't find any information to assist me with this issue, so I
finally just put one of those cheap "card reader" things on USB and
bingo, the CF's automounted and I was able to copy the files and use
them.  Not the perfect solution, but it got me going again.
