Craig:
I thought there was supposed to be some software to make that work.
Somebody else here mentioned it a couple of days ago.
Just curious,
Well I have F7 and F7-64bit and F8 on this computer and after a day
of gaining information and finding things I have Java running on F7 and
F8 both 32 bit machines. Another expert said you have to compile a new
Firefox for a 64 bit system with special words to make sure the new one
is 32 bit. It *SHould* work then on 64 bit system.

you are talking apples and I am talking oranges
I clearly stated running as a plugin within Firefox
Please pay attention.
----
If I knew how bad this was going to be I would never have started
trying to make Java work. It is just TOO HARD!
----
and from what I gather, you had no reason to do so, your needs
undoubtedly would have been met with java-compat version automatically
included in Fedora.
let's see if you actually got it to work...what do you get when you type
(as root)
alternatives --config java
?
Craig
[root@k5di ~]# alternatives --config java
There is 1 program that provides 'java'.
Selection Command
-----------------------------------------------
*+ 1 /usr/lib/jvm/jre-1.5.0-gcj/bin/java
Enter to keep the current selection[+], or type selection number:
I seem to have one.
And this is on F7. The F8 may not be right but the test web page worked....
